Researching window tinting in a search engine can get overwhelming for most, this is why we wanted to break down the types of window tint that are available at Dr. Tint California. We will break down the information below for you by the window film type and the color or shade type, so let’s get started.
Window Tint Films
At Dr. Tint California, we carry two window film types: carbon and ceramic. Carbon window film is the standard with most window tint shops because it blocks 99% of the sun’s UV rays and it doesn’t matter what shade of tint you decide on, 5% or 50%. Ceramic window film is a more premium offering at Dr. Tint California because, with ceramic tint, 99% of the sun’s UV rays are blocked, it protects against up to 80% infrared radiation, it’s superior in glare reduction and comfort, the film will not fade to purple over time, and it’s built with zero dye and zero metal. The ceramic window film will cost more than the carbon window film, but with the features of the carbon film, it’s worth it in the long run. Call today at (408)-265-TINT(8468) to learn more.
Window Tint Film Shades
So you’ve selected one of the window tint films and now you want to know what shade of tint will be best for your automobile’s windows (please reference the image below of the window film shades as a visual example of the shades that are described below).

Depending on what your goal is for window tint, the window tint shades will differ accordingly; are you interested in privacy, then 5%, the darkest shade of window film, would be a great option for you (Tesla in the image has 5% all around on the windows). If you are looking for a more natural look to protect the interior of the car, you can choose 35% all around, which means the front driver and passenger windows and the back windows all the same window film shade. You can also do a mix where you have 5% on the back windows and 20% in the front or a 20% on the back, with 35% in the front.
One disclaimer is that the window film shade will look darker or lighter depending on your vehicle’s interior color, so if you have a beige or white interior the shades will look lighter, if you have a darker interior such as brown, gray, or black, the window film will look a lot darker.
